This extremely unique Big Bend experience integrates personal growth, camaraderie, and physical challenge in the most beautiful wilderness in Texas—Big Bend—a magnificent, spiritual place. A must experience National Park, full of the mythos of the Old West, you will be hiking, camping, and connecting with a small group of men in a vast natural setting, ideal for self-exploration.
We will be camping in the bowl of an extinct volcano where we will witness the setting sun sink below our mountain. Each day, after breakfast, we will set out on an excursion from our base camp. These day trips will be combined with experiential activities, games, individualized assignments, and discussions that will heighten your self-understanding – while having fun in the process.
We will ascend mountains yielding vast panoramas while we seek to view our own personal futures. We will cross deserts while reflecting on times of challenge in our lives. Each night we will return to base camp, prepare our communal supper, then wrap up our day with a group discussion sitting underneath majestic star constellations.
General Plan:
- Day One: Arrival, Set-up, Orientation—Nighttime hike
- Day Two: Hike in the desert “The Desert in our Lives”
- Day Three: Ascend to the top of an overlook “The View from Here”
- Day Four: Closing, Break Camp, Setting Goals, Saying Goodbye
Requirements: This is an active experience, but you need not be an athlete to participate. Both first-time campers and Kilimanjaro veterans are welcome.
Equipment: If you have a tent and a sleeping bag, bring them. If not, we can provide them for you.
